On the 14th November, 2017 at the Film Discussing Club Megaron at the Municipal Art Center in Gorzów Wielkopolski, the film entitled “The Great Wall”, dir. Tadhg O’Sullivan was shown.
The the projection was an initiative of Iwona Bartnicka representing the Municipal Art Center in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Film Discussion Club Megaron.
The film refers to the text by Franz Kafka (The Construction of the Chinese Wall), synchronising the narration, image and music. The picture shows the the overwhelming architecture of large metropolises, confronted with the picture of people who are to be stopped by its walls. The juxtaposition of the Great Wall of Europe, designed to protect us against people from the South, with the Chinese Wall points out on the shortcomings of both.
The film was an introduction into the debate on contemporary foreign policy concerns, led by prof. dr hab. Beata A. Orłowska, coordinator of the Regional Center for International Debate in Gorzów Wielkopolski. Within the discussion the participants tried to answer the following questions: Who decides about the constructing of the wall? When did construction begin? And what are we separating from, what are we afraid of?
