On 17 th October, at I General Secondary School in Gorzów Wielkopolski, on Aleksander Puszkin 31 Street, a meeting: Ziemia Lubuska as a cultural melting pot , took place. The event was conducted by dr Piotr Krzyżanowski from the the Jacob of Paradies University in Gorzów Wielkopolski .
The students of class 1B were acquainted with the issues of the national and ethnic minorities of the Lubuskie region including: The Tatars, The Romani, Ukrainians or Lemkos.
The audience had the opportunity to get learn about the culture, life and history of The Romani. Also the issues related to the settlement action undertaken by the Polish state against the “Gypsy Camps” was raised during the meeting.
Dr. Piotr Krzyżanowski mentioned outstanding figures who has a contribution and are inscribed in the memory and history of Gorzów. Not to forget, The “Romane Dyvesa” – great event which takes place every year in Gorzów Wielkopolski and makes the city vibrant with the culture of The Romani. The figure of the poet Bronisława Wajs-Papusza, whose name is recognizable in other corners of the country, and which is inseparably connected with Gorzów Wielkopolski was recalled. Undoubtedly, Gorzów Wielkopolski is a strong Romani center in Poland, and the culture and tradition of The Romani People is the subject of great interest among young people.
